A leading expert in municipal law, Lori served as General Counsel for the Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM) from 2011 to 2023 following 10 years as Associate Counsel. Her extensive portfolio educating municipal officials and employees, as well as the public, included writing a quarterly legal article for the Alabama Municipal Journal and supervising the writing and revision of various ALM publications, including The Selected Readings for the Municipal Official and the Handbook for Mayors and Councilmembers. As the General Counsel, Lori was vital to ALM’s legislative process – including drafting/reviewing bills and amendments; actively lobbying/educating legislators and legislative staff; and negotiating with special interest groups and state agencies on legislation impacting municipal government. Lori is skilled at navigating the complicated issues facing municipal government at the Alabama Legislature.
Lori serves on the Alabama School of Fine Arts board of trustees and served from 2021-2023 on the International Municipal Lawyers Association’s (IMLA) board of directors. In 2023 she was named Outstanding State League Counsel by IMLA. She is a certified yoga instructor and enjoys speaking to groups on stress management and professionalism. Originally from Las Cruces, NM, she received a BS from Auburn University’s College of Engineering and earned her JD from the Univ. of New Mexico School of Law and is licensed to practice in AL, NM & CO.
