DMC Invited to Speak at 2022 ALM Conference

The Alabama League of Municipalities hosted its 2022 Annual Conference in Tuscaloosa from Wednesday, May 11 to Friday, May 13. DMC Executive Director Rachel Mosness presented a concurrent session to gathered municipal leaders on “How to Have Constructive Conversations with Citizens.”

On Friday, over two hundred municipal representatives from across the state attended the session and received valuable instruction on what deliberative discussions are and how to hold one in their own communities. Attendees were also given an array of DMC resources such as our contemporary issue guides and our moderator handbook.

Throughout the week the conference featured invited guests such as Governor Kay Ivey, Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban, and keynote speaker Brittany Wagoner from Netflix’s Last Chance U. Nearly all of Alabama’s 450 municipalities were represented at this year’s conference, with representatives ranging from mayors, council members, city officials, public service officers, and educators.

The DMC would like to thank Carrie Banks, Communications Director of the Alabama League of Municipalities, for inviting us to speak at this year’s conference, and to ALM for remaining a dependable and committed partner of the Center.
